Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Lisbon on 29 March to preside over the inaugural Aga Khan Music Awards ceremony. Hazar Imam was greeted at Lisbon’s Figo Maduro airport by Rahim Firozali, President of the Ismaili Council for Portugal, and Nazim Ahmad, Diplomatic Representative of the Ismaili Imamat to the Portuguese Republic.

On 29 March, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, led by maestro Pedro Neves, performed new works with Master Musicians of the Aga Khan Music Initiative from Tajikistan, Syria, and Afghanistan, in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam and members of his family.

Mawlana Hazar Imam chegou hoje a Lisboa para presidir a cerimónia inaugural dos Prémios Aga Khan para a Música. A ter lugar entre os dias 29 e 31 de Março na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, os Prémios Aga Khan para a Música contarão com três dias de concertos e eventos em homenagem aos vencedores nos seis domínios a serem reconhecidos pelo Prémio.

Later this month, Mawlana Hazar Imam will preside over the inaugural Aga Khan Music Awards ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal.

Na língua persa a palavra Nawruz significa ‘novo dia’ e é habitualmente traduzida como “ano novo”. Ocorre no dia 21 de Março, marcando assim o advento da Primavera, que traz consigo a ideia de renovação da natureza.

A expressão Yawm-i-Ali significa literalmente, o Dia de Ali, em que se celebra o nascimento de Hazrat Ali que, de acordo com a tradição, ocorreu no recinto da Ka’ba, no dia 13 do mês de Rajab do ano de 599 EC.

The Ismaili Centre Lisbon hosted an evening reception for the World Leadership Alliance - Club of Madrid last month. The event included a special viewing of Prince Hussain’s photographic exhibition The Living Sea.

As part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration, the inaugural Jubilee Arts International Film Festival was held in Lisbon last month. NOS Cinemas at the Vasco da Gama mall in Portugal’s capital hosted over 20,000 visitors, who watched film submissions screened in six movie theatres over the course of four days. 

During the Diamond Jubilee Celebration in Lisbon, tours were arranged for members of the Jamat to visit the Ismaili Centre and its gardens.

Two decades ago, on 11 July 1998, Mawlana Hazar Imam and then-President of Portugal Jorge Sampaio officially opened the Ismaili Centre Lisbon. The Centre’s 20th anniversary coincided with the Diamond Jubilee Celebration held in Lisbon earlier this month, during which thousands of visitors attended the building and its gardens for guided tours.

During the Diamond Jubilee Celebration, the Jubilee Arts International Art Gallery (IAG) displayed 129 works of art, selected from thousands of submissions from around the world. Through paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, installations, digital art, and mixed media, artists showcased the talent and rich diversity within the global Jamat. Artist spotlights, guest panels, workshops, and the exhibition itself engaged, educated, and awed visitors and artists.

Over 40,000 members of the Jamat from over 45 countries around the world assembled at Feira Internacional de Lisboa for one of the largest Jamati gatherings in modern history and the final Darbar of the Diamond Jubilee year on 11 July 2018.
