Dhaka, 30 July 2015 — Government leaders and members of the diplomatic corps joined AKDN staff and volunteers for an Imamat Day reception at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre. The event also marked the first anniversary of the establishment of the Office of the AKDN Resident Representative in Bangladesh.
In October 2013, over 341 000 individuals suddenly stopped what they were doing to Drop, Cover and Hold On! They were taking part in the AKDN ShakeOut – a drill that teaches people around the world how to protect themselves in the event of an earthquake.

Dhaka, Bangladesh, 16 September 2013 – Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Dhaka this morning for a two-day official visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of the government. During the visit, Hazar Imam is expected to meet with government leaders, sign a protocol agreement between the AKDN and the Government of Bangladesh and meet with the Jamat at the new Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre.
Dhaka, Bangladesh, 16 September 2013 – An agreement was signed between the Aga Khan Development Network and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh today, that will work towards improving the quality of life of the people of Bangladesh.
During a two-day visit to Bangladesh commencing 16 September 2013, Mawlana Hazar Imam held talks with senior government leaders and signed a protocol agreement between AKDN and the Government of Bangladesh. Hazar Imam also paid tribute to freedom fighters at the National Memorial for Martyrs in Savar and the Bangabadhu Memorial Museum.

In a city of nearly 13 million people, the newly opened Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre provides the Dhaka Jamat with a welcome respite from the daily hustle and bustle of life, offering a quiet space for reflection and prayer. But it also testifies to the continued historical commitment of the Ismaili Imamat and the Jamat to the future of Bangladesh.
Decades ago, Bangladesh was home to a thriving Jamat. Ismailis were active in key industries including jute, textiles, steel, aluminum, leather, construction, and food processing, as well as trading, banking, insurance and hotels. Today, the country is re-emerging as an area of economic interest to both the Jamat and the wider international community.
During his visit to Bangladesh between 19 – 22 May 2008, Mawlana Hazar Imam granted a Golden Jubilee Darbar to the Jamat in Dhaka. Hazar Imam also presided over the foundation of the Aga Khan Academy and the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre Dhaka.
Society has high hopes for the youth given their potential to change the destiny of nations. The Prottasha (Bengali for "expectations") Youth Camp aimed to instill those aspirations in the youth of Bangladesh.
