Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), organized a seminar titled, “Doing Well by Doing Good: A Discussion on Business and Philanthropy,” at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, in Bashundhara. The seminar brought together representatives from some of the country’s top business houses to deliberate on how businesses can contribute more systematically and sustainably to social development in Bangladesh through corporate philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.

The Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center is a beautiful structure with a lot of aesthetic appeal. Visible from outside with its raised entrance and grand wooden door, the premises draw a lot of attention and curiosity from people and the management is often requested for tours.

World Speech Day takes place annually celebrating "speeches and speech making through live speaking events across the world". Everyone has a story to tell, and World Speech Day is about maximizing each person's potential through the sharing of unique experiences.

Pahela Boishakh- Bringing in 1425

Pahela Boishakh literally means the first day of Boishakh. Boishakh is the first month of the Bengali Calendar and it falls on the 14 April, each year. The Bengalis love to celebrate, be it the last day of the year, called Choitro Shonkranti or the first, adoringly known as Noboborsho, or the New Year.

Who doesn’t love biscuits? Adored by the young and old, biscuits make it to every household. However, how many of us know the laborious and lengthy process that goes behind the making of these delicious snacks? On 7th October, young children of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community of Bangladesh were taken to the biscuit factory belonging to the Olympic Industries Limited, a local food products supplier, to show them the practicality of how flour becomes the finished product that they eat.

At 11 am on Friday, September 29th, the Social hall of the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, Dhaka was filled with over 220 audience members eagerly awaiting the first performance of the much-anticipated ITREB event: Jashan-e-Jubilee.

The occasion of Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee brings with it a host of celebrations and opportunities to come together as a jamat throughout the year. For this Jubilee, there are six key themes to explore as we prepare and celebrate this momentous occasion.  Theme 1 was for August and September which was led by ITREB.

Electronic or print, the newest news is a necessity for the youth of today. Schools, universities and offices all demand that their students and employees be up to date with the most current events. Since getting this news on the mobile screen and at the morning coffee table is so routine, the hard work behind the search, research and compilation is often taken for granted.

In mid-August (to be precise, on August 18, 2017), ITREB Bangladesh arranged a Talim Camp. The students of Religious Education Centre (from ECD to Secondary) gathered with teachers and volunteers for a day-long Talim Camp.

A special event was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Mawlana Hazar Imam, a 60-year period during which the Imam has dedicated efforts to improving the quality of life around the world.

An event celebrating the World Speech Day was held by the National Council for Bangladesh on the 8th of April, 2017 at the Social Hall of the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center.

Editor of the renowned English daily newspaper, The Daily Star, Mr. Mahfuz Anam, paid a visit to the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center on the 27th of April, 2017.

At the end of February, a group of Ismailis toured the National Assembly complex in Dhaka. They discovered that the Louis Kahn-designed winner of the 1989 Aga Khan Award for Architecture remains a formidable presence in the architectural consciousness of Bangladesh.

Prince Amyn travelled to Bangladesh last week, where he presented his credentials to the government as Mawlana Hazar Imam’s personal representative. During the three-day visit, he also toured the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, Dhaka and met with Jamati and AKDN leaders.

When the Ismaili Muslim community in the United States was invited to assist with the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, the Jamat embraced the opportunity. Volunteers took on numerous roles, including hosting the delegation of athletes and coaches from Bangladesh.
