Music has long been considered the language of the gods: the earliest philosophers have noted its capacity to move us towards the highest realms. Most religious traditions incorporate the use of music as as a means of religious expression and prayer. One only has to listen to the rapturous singing of the choir in a church or the devoted singing of bhajans in a Hindu temple, to realize the potential of music to give flight to the soul. Music, according to Plato is a moral law: it gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
