On 11 July 2017, leaders of the Jamat representing all Ismailis around the world visited Mawlana Hazar Imam at his residence in Aiglemont to mark the inauguration of his Diamond Jubilee.
As the commencement of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee approaches, we take a look back at the commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of our 48th Imam, Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah.
Two ceremonies were held to commemorate Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah’s Diamond Jubilee – the first on 10 March 1946 in Bombay and the second on 17 August 1946 in Dar es Salaam. Most of the Jamat today will not have first-hand memories of the ceremonies, though they captured public imagination at the time and were widely covered by the media as the world began to rebuild itself following the war.
On 19 May 2017, the Architectural League of New York awarded Mawlana Hazar Imam the President’s Medal, its highest and most important honour. The occasion highlighted the values of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, established 40 years ago.
With 40 days until the inauguration of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee, TheIsmaili is pleased to unveil a musical tribute composed by Salim – Sulaiman and performed by Ismaili artists from around the world.

Bishkek, 18 October 2016 — His Excellency Almazbek Atambayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic decorated Mawlana Hazar Imam with the Order of Danaker, the highest recognition that the Kyrgyz nation can bestow upon a foreign citizen.

In a dazzling end to a memorable week, the Jubilee Games Closing Ceremony was a kaleidoscope of colour, dance, music, photos, and inspiring words. The athletes entered the hall together — no longer separated by country.
The final day of competition at the Jubilee Games lived up to the hype. Team Canada caught up to and overtook Team Pakistan in the medal standings, and everyone in attendance was treated to great matches.
Approximately 2 000 volunteers from the United Arab Emirates and abroad gathered in Dubai to make the 2016 Jubilee Games a reality. This video pays tribute to them.
Competition was intense at the 2016 Jubilee Games, but it was the spirit of Jamati unity that won out in the end. Watch as Ismailis from around the world render the familiar lyrics “Dream, believe and reach the the sky!” in several of the many languages spoken in their home countries.

The Opening Ceremony on 23 July in Dubai marked the official start of the 2016 Jubilee Games. The 10 000-strong audience erupted in ovation over and over again, as thousands more around the world streamed it live at TheIsmaili.org.
