Nairobi, 18 December 2015 — A jubilant excitement was palpable as athletes, officials, volunteers, members and leaders of the Jamat convened at the Aga Khan Sports Club, Nairobi on a sunny Friday morning to officially open the Ismaili Games Kenya 2015.
The 2015 Kenya Ismaili Games are taking place in Nairobi between 17 – 20 December. Some 290 athletes and 2 000 spectators are expected to attend the Games with representation from Burundi, Rwanda, South Africa, and Kenya.

This summer, 160 Ismaili students and volunteers gathered in Mombasa to take part in Global Encounters 2015. Now in its third year, the programme brought together youth and young professionals from 24 countries to renew a tradition of global citizenship and experience living as part of an international community.
In the past, when an individual was diagnosed with cancer or heart disease, the options for treatment in East Africa were limited. But as the footprint of the Aga Khan University has expanded, new facilities and trained health specialists are making quality care accessible in the region.
Global Encounters, an international camp for Ismaili youth, is about making connections, serving humanity and exploring Ismaili Muslim faith and values. Applications for the 2015 cycle to be held at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa are being accepted until 7 February.
When three Ismaili entrepreneurs saw the potential for their business model to improve education and address poverty in Kenya, they partnered with a Nairobi primary school and a local charity to test the idea. Student attendance, grades and enrollment at the school have since soared.
RAYS OF LIGHT: Glimpses into the Ismaili Imamat opened recently in Nairobi. First launched in 2008 in Paris, the exhibition – a Golden Jubilee International Programme – offers glimpses from the life of Mawlana Hazar Imam, the first fifty years of his Imamat and the immense scope and work of Aga Khan Development Network institutions around the world.
This summer, Ismaili secondary school students from countries across the globe will have an opportunity to get to know one another as they take part in the 2014 Global Encounters programme being held at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa. The international programme is currently inviting applications from Ismaili students all over the world.

Nairobi, 16 April 2012 – A Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday by Prince Hussain on behalf of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture to collaborate in the rehabilitation and restoration of the Nairobi City Park to international standards in terms of architecture, landscape and horticulture.
As 2011 drew to a close, hundreds of athletes gathered to take part in Ismaili Games held in Uganda and Kenya. Featuring a wide range of sports, the Games offered opportunities for members of the Jamat to come together and celebrate through competition and camaraderie.
Nairobi, 28 July 2011 – As Mawlana Hazar Imam prepared to depart Nairobi, senior Jamati leaders bid him farewell. Prior to leaving East Africa, Mawlana Hazar Imam stopped over in Arusha, where he visited the site of the Aga Khan University campus and met with the Secretary General of the East African Community.
Nairobi, 27 July – The Foundation Ceremony of the Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communications was held today. Mawlana Hazar Imam and the Right Honourable Raila Odinga, Prime Minister of Kenya, presided over the ceremony.
Mawlana Hazar Imam joined Jamati and institutional leaders at a dinner held in Nairobi on 15 July 2011. Hazar Imam was presented with a Qajar manuscript of Nasir Khusraw's Diwan on behalf of those in attendance. Guests were entertained by performances of students from the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi, and well-known Ismaili Bollywood music artists Salim and Sulaiman Merchant.
