Mawlana Hazar Imam shares a light moment with the Jamat

In a moment that was uniquely historic for the entire Jamat, Mawlana Hazar Imam granted a Diamond Jubilee Darbar in Nairobi, Kenya on the very same grounds where the Imam had been installed during his Takht Nashini in 1957 when he acceded to the Imamat. This was also the same site where Mawlana Hazar Imam celebrated both his Silver and Golden Jubilees.

The film of Mawlana Hazar Imam's Diamond Jubilee visit to Kenya is now available online. This 37-minute film recounts the history of the Ismaili community in East Africa, preparations by the Jamat, and the programme undertaken by Hazar Imam during his visit to the country in April 2018. The visit brought together Jamats from the jurisdictions of Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Republic of Malagasy.

Upon arriving in Nairobi, Mawlana Hazar Imam is presented with a bouquet of flowers by Umaiza Jamal, a young member of the Ismaili Volunteer Corps.

The official announcement of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit to Kenya, saw the entire jurisdiction Jamat overcome with jubilation. At the invitation of the Government of Kenya, Mawlana Hazar Imam will visit Nairobi from 12 to 15 April 2018, during which time he is expected to grace the Jamat with a Diamond Jubilee Darbar.

 

The Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum has announced that Mawlana Hazar Imam, at the invitation of the Government, has confirmed that he will visit Kenya in April 2018.

Enlightenment Dome at Rays of Light

The Aga Khan Council for Kenya and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), will once again host the updated Rays of Light exhibition in Town Jamatkhana from April 6th - 25th, 2018.  

On 14th January 1922, the then Darkhana Jamatkhana in Nairobi, Kenya, conducted its first Jamati ceremonies, exactly two years after the foundation stone was laid. It was therefore auspicious that on 14th January 2018, ninety-six years later to the day that the Nairobi Jamat should remember and celebrate the history of this iconic Jamatkhana with guided tours of an exhibition showcasing the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims in the region.

The Jubilee Games Fanous has reached every Jamatkhana in Kenya. It has travelled to Kisii, Kisumu and its districts, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Nairobi. Reflecting the Kenyan Jamat's concern for the protection of wildlife, the Fanous visited Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, and various Serena Hotels properties.

Tanzania launched its 2016 Jubilee Games Fanous Roadshow in Mwanza, where a tournament with Kenya was taking place. In a unique ceremony, the fawanees of both countries were brought together as a symbol of Jamati brotherhood.
