Victoria, Canada, 11 February 2015 — Representing the Ismaili Muslim community of British Columbia, Sherali Hussein opened a new session of parliament at the province’s Legislative Assembly with the recitation of Surah al-Fatiha on Tuesday.

To the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) at Focus Humanitarian Assistance in Portugal, delivering earthquake safety education is just as important as responding in the aftermath. New Delhi, 25 January 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam has been named a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, one of India’s highest civilian decorations.

When three Ismaili entrepreneurs saw the potential for their business model to improve education and address poverty in Kenya, they partnered with a Nairobi primary school and a local charity to test the idea. Student attendance, grades and enrollment at the school have since soared.

The Ismaili Centre, Lisbon took part in Lisboa Open House, an annual event to raise awareness about spaces of architectural and cultural value. Visitors learnt about the relationship between the architecture of the building and the history and values of a Muslim community that has been in Portugal for decades.

The opening ceremony of the Aga Khan Museum took place on 12 September 2014, following the opening of the Ismaili Centre, Toronto earlier in the afternoon by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mawlana Hazar Imam. They also marked the opening of the museum, together with Prince Amyn and the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. Among the distinguished guests at the ceremony were Prince Rahim, Princess Salwa, and Prince Hussain, former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, government leaders, diplomats, and leaders of Jamati and Imamat institutions.

Toronto, 5 October 2014 — The lyrical sounds of qawwali music filled the social hall of the Ismaili Centre, Toronto on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Over 200 guests attended the celebration, which was also the inaugural public event of the Ismaili Centre, Toronto.

Beginning this week, Australia plays host to RAYS OF LIGHT: Glimpses into the Ismaili Imamat. Opening first in Sydney, the photographic exhibition will travel to centres across the country in November and December, and on to New Zealand in the new year.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic on 2 November for a four day visit to review Aga Khan Development Network activities in the country. During the visit, Hazar Imam visited the University of Central Asia’s main campus in Naryn, and held meetings with the Kyrgyz President, Almazbek Atambayev and Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev in Bishkek.
