When Vladimir Djurovic received the commission to design the Aga Khan Park in Toronto, he travelled to gardens in different parts of the Muslim world. In an interview he gave to TheIsmaili.org, the landscape architect describes the essence of this new greenspace, which will be formally inaugurated on Monday.

Gouvieux, France, 13 May 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam has expressed shock and sadness in the wake of an attack on a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community on their way to work in Karachi, Pakistan, that left 43 people dead. “This attack represents a senseless act of violence against a peaceful community,” said Mawlana Hazar Imam.
Cairo, 2 May 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam was in Egypt to attend an event marking the restoration of the 14th century Aqsunqur Mosque. Work on Cairo’s “Blue Mosque” was completed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture as part of its Al-Darb al-Ahmar Urban Regeneration Programme.
During his visit to India earlier this month, Mawlana Hazar Imam and his family visited the Qutb Shahi Heritage Park, where conservation work is being carried out by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. Days earlier, Hazar Imam and and his family had toured Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi.
Members of the British Parliament invited the Ismaili Muslim community to mark the festival of Navroz at the Houses of Parliament last month. The fourth annual Navroz reception took place on 17 March in the Terrace Pavilion at the House of Commons.

Thirty years ago, in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam and his family, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher opened an Ismaili Centre in the heart of London. The first such high-profile centre to be conceived, it has over the past three decades facilitated new relationships and an improved understanding within British society of both the Shia Ismaili Muslim community and the wider Muslim ummah.
The Ismaili Centre, London was opened on 24 April 1985 by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam. They were joined by government ministers, members of Parliament, diplomats and leaders of the Ismaili community from around the world.

London, 26 March 2015 — The Institute of Ismaili Studies is once again inviting applications to their annual Summer Programme on Islam. This year’s programme will be held in Toronto, Canada between 16 – 22 August.
21 March 2015 — Ismaili Councils worldwide announced on Navroz day that the second cycle of the Jubilee Games will be held in July 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Games seek to encourage and support Ismaili athletes in achieving excellence in competitive sport, and to enhance the Jamat’s awareness and appreciation for physical fitness and health.
3 March 2015 — RAYS OF LIGHT: Glimpses into the Ismaili Imamat, concluded its tour of Australia and New Zealand in Auckland at the end of February. In addition to the Jamat, a number of leaders from government, civil society and academia visited the exhibition, and expressed their admiration for the work of Mawlana Hazar Imam and the institutions of the Ismaili Imamat.
