At the forecourt of the Imam's residence at Aiglemont, LIF Chairman Dr Mahmoud Eboo offers Diamond Jubilee Mubarak greetings to Mawlana Hazar Imam and his family on behalf of the Jamati leaders present and all Ismailis around the world.

Yesterday, Ismaili Muslims all over the world symbolically crossed the threshold of Aiglemont and joined in procession with hundreds of senior Jamati leaders, as they called on the residence of the Imam of the Time to offer homage on the occasion of his Diamond Jubilee.

On 11 July 2017, His Highness the Aga Khan commences his Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years as the Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. He is only the fifth Imam in the 1,400 year history of the Ismaili Imamat to reach this epic milestone. 

 

As the commencement of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee approaches, we take a look back at the commemoration of the Jubilees of our 48th Imam, Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah.

In Islam, homage to Allah’s last and final messenger and his family is an established tradition and practice, enshrined in the Holy Qur’an and Prophetic tradition. The tradition of dignified ceremonial homage to the Imams has continued through the ages, holding special spiritual significance.

Gouvieux, France, 10 July 2017 — On the eve of the historic occasion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee, Ismailis around the world are preparing for a special day of commemoration and celebration, as senior Jamati leaders who have served over the past six decades arrive in France.

 
Looking ahead, we must plant seeds for the next generation’s well-being and successes now.

From Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee to the impending commemoration of his Diamond Jubilee, Altaf Jiwa reflects on where the global Jamat finds itself today, and where it is headed. On 19 May 2017, the Architectural League of New York awarded Mawlana Hazar Imam the President’s Medal, its highest and most important honour. The occasion highlighted the values of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, established 40 years ago.

Since the earliest days of Islam, the Shia notion of nazrana — the offering of an unconditional gift to the Imam of the Time as a gesture of a murid’s love and homage — has been a time-honoured tradition in the Jamat. In all times and in all places, Ismailis have looked to the Imam of the Time, who has protected and guided the community in spiritual and worldly matters. And throughout 1 400 years of history, the Jamat has been continuously reminded of the value system that anchors our faith, and which continues to serve us as it has served our ancestors.
