The tour started with an introduction of the factory, its history and the biscuit making process. After that, the group was split into two and taken on a tour of the production floor.
Before entering the production area, each person washed and sanitized their hands and put on hair caps and shoe covers, as per the factory safety standards. The tour started from the very beginning of the process- flour sifting and processing of the cream mixture for the biscuit dough. The group was then walked through the kneading of various kinds of dough, mixing processes and baking chambers. The group also saw how machines detect for magnetic particles during the cooling process. A piece of magnet was intentionally thrown in with a batch to demonstrate the detection, and the machine, upon detecting the intruder element, automatically discarded the whole batch. The afternoon concluded with a hearty lunch, generously provided by Olympic Industries Limited.
This tour was an opportunity for the participants to learn something new and broaden their horizons. Recognizing the second theme, Education, of this Diamond Jubilee year, this visit, organized by the Youth and Sports Committee, was an example of how education is a lifelong experience, extending beyond the classroom. As Albert Einstein once said, “The only source of knowledge is experience."
