Born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, Noureen is a graduate from the Aga Khan University Hospital and has been a neonatal intensive care nurse in the UAE for 10 years. While on duty, Noureen said she can feel vulnerable, anxious, and stressed at times, but she does not let that fear cloud her mind. She takes charge of her safety by wearing all required personal protective equipment and washing her hands regularly. She is also inspired to educate others on hand hygiene, use of sanitizers, mouth covering, and safe disposal of tissues.
“The world has transformed, but the essential role of nurses has not,” Noureen said. “Our everyday lives have been upended, but nurses stand up and show up as frontline health workers during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Our nurses give patients the compassion and care they need and deserve. I am aware of the risk associated with this profession, but it gives me tremendous satisfaction.”
