Houston’s Zeineen Momin has turned the research laboratory where she works into a testing facility for the Covid-19 virus during the worldwide pandemic.

Zeineen is a lab manager at the Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor’s College of Medicine. Her role involves developing methodologies for large-scale genomic sequencing to aid in a better understanding of precision medicine and contribute to the understanding of how our unique genomes can have an impact on individual health.

Her efforts to quickly respond to the Covid-19 crisis involved re-channeling her team’s energy to processing Covid-19 tests quickly and automating the workflow.

“This will give us the capacity to process up to 5,000 samples per day, fulfilling the emergency need for testing in Houston, Texas,” said Zeineen.

Originally born in Mumbai, India, Zeineen moved to the U.S. to pursue an education in bioinformatics and biotechnology. She completed a master’s degree at New York University before moving to Houston, where she attends Headquarters Jamatkhana.

“Following the safety guidelines provided by respective healthcare agencies should be the top priority,” said Zeineen. “Stay safe, eat healthy, continue advancing and sharing knowledge in your respective fields.”
