As Portugal and the rest of the world go through a period of uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic, pharmacists are one of the first points of contact between patients and the healthcare system. Pharmacists such as Naimo Aly Nangy of Lisbon, Portugal, play an essential role in the identification and management of potential cases.

Naimo was born in Lisbon, and his parents are from Mozambique and India. He graduated with an integrated master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences at Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon.

He made the choice to study pharmaceutical sciences given the multidisciplinary scope, scientific depth, and significant impact that pharmacology can have in the day to day lives of individuals and societies.

Since 2018, Naimo has worked in community pharmacy, and is involved in areas such as therapy management, medication administration, parameter determination, early detection of various diseases, and overall promotion of healthier lifestyles.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on Naimo’s workday. The use of personal protective equipment and the frequent cleaning of contact surfaces have become a routine.

The mandatory distance between people has led to less physical proximity between the pharmacist and the customer. However, with the Covid-19 situation, people have started to frequent the pharmacy more regularly in order to seek help in preventing infection and responding to their doubts about the pandemic.

While Naimo continues to administer medication and work on the front line of this crisis, he appeals to the global Jamat to ”Collaborate with health professionals, respect the guidelines of the authorities, such as social distancing and proper hand washing.”

By doing this, he says, “All together we will win.”
