On 13 October 2018, the Ismaili Council for Madagascar, in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Portfolio launched the 4th edition of the Indian Ocean Ismaili Games (Jeux Ismailis de l’Océan Indien). The games work towards enabling the Jamat to practice frequent physical activity, and encourage health and wellbeing among all in the community.

While immersing themselves in local culture, Stanford University students Faith Harron and Allison Armstrong taught the Makerspace curriculum at the Lycée, an Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) school.

The Aga Khan Conciliation and Arbitration Board (CAB) welcomed mediators and peacemakers to participate in a Mediators’ Forum at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center, Houston, on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Similar fora were held at Glenview and Atlanta Jamatkhanas.
CAB is a mediation body that helps to handle disputes through volunteers with formal mediation training. CAB’s mediation week consisted of a series of panel discussions and roundtable exchanges for a shared understanding of best practices.
A four-day workshop entitled Skills Incubator for youth aged 13 to 18 years was held at the Ismaili Centre Dubai in August 2018. Experienced professionals from the community presented insights into various topics on leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, practical money management, and additional key soft skills required for a successful career.
Our quality of life depends on the decisions we make for our health. These decisions are based on the knowledge we possess about preventive measures for non-communicable diseases and cancer, awareness of mental health conditions, and the importance of nutrition and exercise. Without this knowledge, it is difficult for us to make well-informed decisions about our health.

The annual Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) USA Walk-Run was scheduled to be held at the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, November 11, 2018. As in prior years on this day, walk organizers envisioned residents of Southern California would participate in the event to learn about AKF programs worldwide, and invest in long-term solutions to improve the quality of life for global communities.
The Ismaili Centre Lisbon hosted an evening reception for the World Leadership Alliance - Club of Madrid last month. The event included a special viewing of Prince Hussain’s photographic exhibition The Living Sea.
On Thursday, November 22, 2018, Aga Khan Foundation (Bangladesh) hosted “An Evening with Aga Khan Foundation” for the members of the Dhaka Jamat at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre. The main objective of the evening was to inform the Jamat of the work of the Foundation in Bangladesh.
With a desire to provide programmes of various boards on one platform to the Jamat, particularly those residing in smaller centres, the Local Council for Hyderabad in Southern India, on 26th August 2018, organised ”Sunday Funday" for the Jamats of Parbhani and Nanded. The basket of programmes presented to the Jamat had at least one programme for each of the age groups and ensured that the Jamat had an exciting day throughout.

As part of The.Ismaili’s November theme of Science and Technology, and to recognise International Children’s Day today, we will learn about the children and youth of the UAE Jamat, who are engaging in a variety of stimulating technology-related programmes, from computer software to robotics.
The Rays of Light exhibition is set to open in Pakistan shortly, with the Jamat eager to view the acclaimed audio-visual depiction of the work of the Imamat over the last 60 years. This interactive exhibition features over 250 rare photographs along with engaging videos and multimedia clips, all of which provide extensive insights about the Ismaili community’s history and the work of the Aga Khan Development Network, which has always been particularly active in Pakistan. The exhibition highlights the tireless commitment of Mawlana Hazar Imam to encourage development through institutional action that embodies the social conscience of Islam.
Join us for the annual Milad-un-Nabi Lecture, to be hosted at the Ismaili Centre London on Wednesday 21 November. Entitled The Arab Spring — Quest for Social Justice, this year’s lecture will be presented by Masooda Bano, Professor of Development Studies at the University of Oxford. The presentation will be followed by an on-stage conversation with Sarah Bowen Savant, Associate Professor at the Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations. The event is due to begin at 8:30 PM GMT, and will be webcast at the.ismaili/live.
The AKDN Comprehensive Sanitation Initiative, which was launched in 2015, is supporting the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission, and is working to improve the quality of life of poor communities by facilitating access to water and sanitation for 100,000 poor households across six states in India, as well as by improving hygiene behaviours. On World Toilet Day, let us look at the approaches adopted by the Aga Khan Foundation of layering hygiene education with the community sanitation initiative.
Earlier this month, Prince Aly Muhammad completed a five-day, private visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, during which he visited the Naryn campus of the University of Central Asia. Prince Aly Muhammad spent time with students in Naryn to understand more about their backgrounds and aspirations.
