On 13 October 2018, the Ismaili Council for Madagascar, in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Portfolio launched the 4th edition of the Indian Ocean Ismaili Games (Jeux Ismailis de l’Océan Indien). The games work towards enabling the Jamat to practice frequent physical activity, and encourage health and wellbeing among all in the community.

 

More than 120 members of the Jamat, from all around the Malagasy jurisdiction (Antananarivo, Majunga, Tuléar, Antsirabe, Fianarantsoa, Ihosy, Mayotte) took part in the Indian Ocean Ismailis Games last October. 

Athletes took part in various sports such as baby-foot, badminton, billiards, cricket, soccer, petanque, table tennis, volleyball, and even zumba.

On the weekend of 19 October, the games carried on, with final matches in all sports. The evening ended with a meal shared among all members of the Jamat, in joy and happiness.

The games concluded on Sunday 21 October with a closing ceremony, as well as a prize distribution to all winners of the tournaments.

The National Council thanked the teams and volunteers who took part in making the games successful. Players and spectators were also thanked for their presence which was essential.
