Today, climate change affects every country on every continent. It has become a global challenge that requires local engagement. In response, the Jamat in the United Arab Emirates has actively participated in environmental programming in the country, acting as stewards for a sustainable, green future.
Families from all across Atlanta and the US visited the Children’s Museum of Atlanta for the Museum’s first-ever United Nations of Play. This day-long event immersed visitors in exhibitions from a number of countries, such as Egypt, India, Peru, Senegal, and others, highlighting diverse cultural and historical traditions and exposing young minds to international cultures through play. The Ismaili Council for the Southeastern United States was among the Museum’s partners for the inaugural event, strengthening its existing five-year collaborative partnership.
Ismaili Jamatkhanas foster an appreciation of pluralism and serve as a perfect venue for sharing the Ismaili Muslim identity and community values with the greater community. Events hosted at the Jamatkhana stimulate the intellect, encourage dialogue, and celebrate cultural diversity in the Greater Atlanta Area. They are often also used to host government and community leaders to enhance relations and find pathways for civic engagement.
Two Ismaili students from Manhattan Jamatkhana reached the semi-finals of the public forum debate category, beating the second and third-ranked teams in the nation, at the Harvard National High School Invitational Forensics Tournament held in Cambridge on President’s Day weekend.
The Global Centre for Pluralism (GCP) has announced 10 finalists for the 2019 Global Pluralism Award. The Award recognises the extraordinary achievements of organisations, individuals, and governments around the world who exemplify living peacefully and productively with diversity.
“I didn’t believe it until I was shaking his hand,” Zameer Rayani admits. When his presence was requested at Amazon’s recent All-Hands Meeting in Seattle, he didn’t even share with his family or friends. After all, no one from the HR department had ever won the award in the company’s 25-year history, but with numerous Ismaili Amazonians live-streaming the event around the world, messages like this spread like wildfire on social media: “Do you know Zameer Rayani? Sounds Ismaili, he just got an award from Bezos at our company All-Hands!”
At a ceremony in Porto on 9 July, Prince Amyn was conferred with the Medal of Honour of the City by Mayor Mr Rui Moreira, in recognition of his patronage of the arts.

Three local members from Miami translated vision into reality. This program directly benefits the mental health, confidence levels, and social skills of individuals. The advantages: newly gained traits will not only enhance the feeling of community belonging, but will also reflect positively outside the Ismaili community—confident youth, a new skill set, and better mental health.
The Aga Khan Development Network in Tanzania marked the 62nd anniversary of Mawlana Hazar Imam's ascension to the Ismaili Imamat at a reception held at the Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam. The Government of Tanzania was officially represented by Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi.
Four young Ismailis from Pakistan have been appointed onto the 33-member National Youth Council (NYC) recently established by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. The council’s mandate is to work for the upliftment of Pakistani youth and influence national policy and decision-making. Its members are prominent figures from various fields including Education, Sports, Religion, Economics, and the Arts.
A Lunch and Learn event to facilitate knowledge exchange between the Ismaili community and public officials was organized by the Ismaili Council for the Central US at Albuquerque Jamatkhana on April 13, 2019. Ismaili value systems that unify the Jamat globally and the ethics of service in our faith were shared with the guests.

On July 7th, 2019, the Ismaili Volunteer Corps of Tanzania and Zambia celebrated 100 years of volunteerism in the Ismaili Community. The event coincided with the 62nd Imamat Day Celebrations of Mawlana Hazar Imam, at the Diamond Jubilee Complex in Dar es Salaam. The celebratory day commenced with the flag hoisting of the “My Flag” and a March past by the Aga Khan Scouts and Guides, and past and present Ismaili Volunteer Majors that have served in the Ismaili Volunteer Corps.
