Tasreen Keshavjee decided to pursue psychology because it was her calling, she says, and a field where she could make the most difference.

Born in Kenya, Tasreen grew up in both Vancouver and Nairobi, attending Pemberton and Parklands Jamatkhanas. After receiving her Master’s degree in counselling psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, California, Tasreen started a private practice. She now lives and works in Kenya as a psychotherapist and volunteers as the co-convenor of Community Counselling Services for the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board in Kenya.

Tasreen has been working from home for over four weeks, providing online therapy for her patients. She sees many more clients in a day than she did before, and many are not able to pay due to a loss of income. Tasreen says conducting online therapy has required her to adjust her methods and learn new skills.

“Please be kind to yourself and others,” Tasreen says. “You’re not alone. The Social Welfare Board is here to help with mental wellness and emotional support.”
