Toronto, 19 September 2014 — Ismaili Muslims from across the city gathered to attend Jamatkhana for the first time at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto. It was a particularly happy and emotional occasion, especially for the Jamat who live in the Don Mills area and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Born in a “cradle of friendship,” the Ismaili Centre, Toronto was opened by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam on 12 September 2014.
The opening ceremony of the Aga Khan Museum took place on 12 September 2014, following the opening of the Ismaili Centre, Toronto earlier in the afternoon by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mawlana Hazar Imam. An expected 1 300 athletes will compete in 12 sports, making the event the largest Ismaili sports tournament ever staged in North America.
