The Tanzanian Jamat gathered in Dar es Salaam on 12 October for the historic occasion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee Darbar.

Soothing and soulful Ginans and Sufi songs filled the air in Dar es Salaam as the Tanzania Jamat gathered for a devotional night: Shab-e-Sufiyana, in preparation of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit this week.

On the joyous occasion of the upcoming visit of Mawlana Hazar Imam to East Africa, the Tanzania Jamat celebrated with music, mehndi, and food. 

Following the confirmation announcement by the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit to Tanzania, hundreds of volunteers across the country quickly began various preparations for the momentous occasion.

The Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum announced on Saturday that Mawlana Hazar Imam, at the invitation of the Governments of Uganda and Tanzania, has confirmed that he will visit both countries in early October. Details of the visits will be shared once confirmed.

Tanzania launched its 2016 Jubilee Games Fanous Roadshow in Mwanza, where a tournament with Kenya was taking place. In a unique ceremony, the fawanees of both countries were brought together as a symbol of Jamati brotherhood.

The light of the Jubilee Games shone from the top of Africa’s highest peak. A team of ten Tanzanians carried the Fanous up Mount Kilimanjaro, reaching the snowy Uhuru Peak at 5 895 metres above sea level.

In the past, when an individual was diagnosed with cancer or heart disease, the options for treatment in East Africa were limited. But as the footprint of the Aga Khan University has expanded, new facilities and trained health specialists are making quality care accessible in the region.

Arusha, 28 November 2012 – Mawlana Hazar Imam took part today in the inauguration of the new headquarters of the East African Community. The building, situated on a parcel of land in Arusha town, houses the EAC Secretariat, the East African Legislative Assembly and the East African Court of Justice.

Mawlana Hazar Imam is welcomed to Arusha by the Deputy Secretaries General of the East African Community.

Dar es Salaam, 17 July 2012 – Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Tanzania for a brief visit to meet with senior government officials and review progress on AKDN projects in the country.

Roshan Hemani is the Plant Nursery Manager at the Aga Khan University’s Principal Campus in East Africa at Arusha.

Lifelong educator Roshan Hemani has been hard at work on the site of the new campus of the Aga Khan University in Arusha. But instead of moulding young minds she is re-forming the landscape – Hemani and a team of gardeners are on a mission to plant 150 000 trees in the area. And the plant nursery she has established may become a vital source in sustaining Tanzania’s ecology for years to come.

Dar es Salaam, 4 July 2011 – Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived at Dar es Salaam airport this evening, commencing his Jamati visit to Tanzania. Eagerly awaiting the Imam, the Jamat has been busy making preparations for the visit and celebrating with traditional festivities.

In the wake of the Dar es Salaam explosions on 1 February 2011, the Ismaili Council for Tanzania and the Aga Khan Hospital organised a blood drive, as members of the Jamat donated items and volunteered in the relief effort.

When the Government of Tanzania requested support for the victims of an explosion on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, the Ismailis in the area were eager to help. The Ismaili Council for Tanzania partnered with the Aga Khan Hospital to organise a blood drive, and members of the Jamat donated emergency supplies to victims of the disaster.
