For the final article in November’s Science and Technology theme, we pay a visit to the Aga Khan Lycée in Khorog, Tajikistan. While immersing themselves in local culture, Stanford University students Faith Harron and Allison Armstrong taught the Makerspace curriculum at the Lycée, an Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) school.

The Ismaili Centre London hosted a reception and launch event last month for the newly released book Understanding Sharia: Islamic Law in a Globalised World published by I.B. Tauris in association with The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS). The book encourages new thinking about the history of sharia and its role in the world today.

Join us for the annual Milad-un-Nabi Lecture, to be hosted at the Ismaili Centre London on Wednesday 21 November. Entitled The Arab Spring — Quest for Social Justice, this year’s lecture will be presented by Masooda Bano, Professor of Development Studies at the University of Oxford. The presentation will be followed by an on-stage conversation with Sarah Bowen Savant, Associate Professor at the Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations. The event is due to begin at 8:30 PM GMT, and will be webcast at the.ismaili/live.

Prince Aly Muhammad visits a local chicken farm owned by Mr Kalyikul Ysyraliev. As a graduate of UCA’s Entrepreneurship Programme, Mr Ysraliev built his first greenhouse in 2013 with the support of a loan from the Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank and UCA, and has been supplying chickens, eggs, as well as vegetables and roses to the local community for the past five years.

Earlier this month, Prince Aly Muhammad completed a five-day, private visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, during which he visited the Naryn campus of the University of Central Asia. Prince Aly Muhammad spent time with students in Naryn to understand more about their backgrounds and aspirations.
