Roles and Responsibilities of a Facilitator

Global Encounters participants are curious, compassionate youth who demonstrate high potential for leadership. Facilitators directly mentor, guide, and support participants to ensure their growth and development through transformational experiences. Facilitators are flexible, adapt quickly to dynamic situations, and are open to learning and being part of a team. Facilitators serve in a key role to build relationships and foster a sense of community.

  • Support the development of strong relationships among participants from different parts of the world.
  • Build an inclusive and respectful community among participants and staff.
  • Lead and facilitate workshops (dance, art, identity development, community building).
  • Lead groups through service learning projects and support individual research and inquiry.
  • Support residential living and day-to-day needs of participants.
  • Provide emotional support to participants as they explore a new culture and navigate a new environment away from home.
  • Facilitate team building activities, sports, debates, arts and group service projects.
  • Create engaging projects, meaningful discussions and reflective activities.
  • Responsibly care for participants throughout the programme, including during off-campus visits and excursions.
  • Work collaboratively with facilitators from diverse backgrounds.
