The following points were stressed by the President of the Republic:
Tthe number of cases of COVID-19 in the city of Maputo has exponentially increased during the last two weeks constituting a red flag and a sign of worry for the country;
- The occupation rate in the public hospitals has increased. There is a clear lack of capacity on the part of the national health service to give a satisfactory response to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. This situation may lead to the collapse of the national health system;
- There is a lack of ventilators in the public hospitals. This is a serious concern since there is a risk of infected persons not being able to be treated in Mozambique;
- The relaxation of the measures in terms of the mobility of people and their freedom does not mean that the pandemic situation ceased to exist. Everyone should with no exception continue to comply with the physical distancing and hygiene related measures and avoid social gatherings;
- the Government has verified a lack of care of people in terms of compliance with the applicable measures specifically on the beaches, markets, public transports, and the correct use of masks;
- the Government will intensify the inspection so to ensure that everyone is complying with the applicable prevention-control measures and, if necessary, will apply severe fines in case of infringement with such measures.
Finally, it should also be noted that, as from 1 October 2020, the classes of the 12th grade resumed, subject to the existence of contingency plans sectoral conditions and the appropriate conditions are verified, by the health authorities, without prejudice to the adjustment of school timetables.
