Who gets cancer?
Anyone can get cancer at any age, but the risk goes up with age.
What are the Causes?
- Tobbacco is the biggest preventable cause of many cancers
- Ultra violet rays from sun can cause skin cancer.
- Radiation can cause cancer.
- Certain chemicals have been linked to cancer, too.
- Some cancers are also linked to genes.
The exact cause of cancer remains unknown but any trigger that stimulates changes in body cells causes cancer.
Can cancer be prevented?
- Avoid use of Tobacco and alcohol.
- Ultraviolet (UV) rays and sunlight. You can lower your chances of getting skin cancer by:
- Staying out of the sun between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Wearing a hat, shirt, and sunglasses when you are in the sun
- Using broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30
- Diet
- Include: whole grains, vegetables, fruits and fresh products in your diet
- Avoid: processed, sugary and refined products
- Vaccines that help reduce cancer risk like Human papillomavirus vaccine which can reduce risk of cervical, anal and many other cancers.
- Early Detection of certain viruses by doing regular examinations can stop the spread and help in treatment.
