Vaccination plays a critical role in controlling the pandemic and in mitigating its impact on the socio-economic arena. The availability of vaccination is still quite limited and countries that assemble the vaccine have restricted export access.

How to Acquire the Vaccine?

  • Current international agreements only allow for vaccination to be acquired by government entities and it is up to them to coordinate the vaccine buy-out for their countries. This will have the benefit of obtaining the vaccination at more reasonable prices.
  • Vaccines can be acquired in the country through different initiatives like COVAX by WHO, AVATT by the African task force, or through purchases or donations.
  • Mozambique has started discussions with countries that assemble the vaccine which resulted in donations from China and India. These have the added advantage of shorter delivery timeframes and quicker response times.

  • Due to availability shortages, the only vaccine available widely at the moment is Covishield and limited Sinopharm. The above costs cover only vaccine costs to which added costs will be added namely syringes, needles, consumables and transportation costs.
  • The vaccines are available at multiple health centers across the country and a schedule published by the Ministry of Health regarding has been shared with Jamat.
