Global Encounters, an international camp for Ismaili youth, is about making connections, serving humanity and exploring Ismaili Muslim faith and values. Applications for the 2015 cycle to be held at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa are being accepted until 7 February.
Lisbon, 15 January – 15 February 2015 — The Ismaili Centre, Lisbon is hosting an exhibition this month titled Symmetry's Portal de Margarida Sardinha. The 3D installation illustrates the geometric symmetry present in the Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain.
Toronto, 31 January 2015 — Milad-un-Nabi marks the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammed (may peace be upon him and his family). To commemorate this anniversary, the Ismaili Centre Toronto held a lecture marking the inauguration of a thematic programme, which takes a look at how humanity will coexist as our cities grow more dense and diverse.
Dubai, 29 January 2015 — His Excellency Umej Singh, Singapore’s Ambassador to United Arab Emirates and His Excellency Cheong Ming Foong, Singapore’s Consul General to United Arab Emirates, visited the Ismaili Centre, Dubai and met with the President of the Ismaili Council for United Arab Emirates.
Al-Ummah is a residential programme designed as a stepping stone for participants aged 15 to 18. Since its creation in 1982, it has provided an opportunity for hundreds of participants to explore their cultural and religious identity.
Shining a light on contemporary Middle Eastern and North African arts and culture, the fifth annual Nour Festival of Arts took place at venues across the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in October – November 2014. As a partner of the festival, the Ismaili Centre, London hosted a series of events that celebrated the cultural diversity of the Silk Road.

Dubai, 27 January 2015 — Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares visited the Ismaili Centre, Dubai and met with the President of the Ismaili Council for United Arab Emirates.
Toronto, 22 January 2015 — Dr Lisa Giudice, Regional Primary Care Lead (North) and Dr Ed Kucharski, Regional Primary Care Lead (South) delivered the 3.0 Mainpro-M1 accredited presentation for healthcare providers on cervical and colorectal screening in the presence of 90 family physicians and allied health professionals at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto.
Imli (tamarind) — also known as aamli and “Indian date — has a delicious sweet and sour flavour and is a versatile ingredient. It can be eaten raw as a bean, used for flavouring like a spice, and enjoyed as chutney, a condiment, and even as a refreshing beverage.

London, 14 January 2015 — Dr Amr Abdalla, Senior Advisor on Policy Analysis and Research at the University of Addis Ababa spoke on Retrieving Islam’s Humanistic Heritage: A role of Muslim Mediatory Practice at the Milad-un-Nabi lecture.
Lisbon, 8 January 2015 — Her Excellency, Kirsty Isobel Hayes, the British ambassador to Portugal, visited the Ismaili Centre, Lisbon and met with the AKDN Resident Representative, Vazir Nazim Ahmad, and the President of the Ismaili Council, Aitmadi Amirali Bhanji.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell — Canada’s first female prime minister — delivered an Ismaili Centre lecture in Vancouver in November. She spoke passionately of the need for more women in positions of leadership at all levels of society and the importance of ensuring their voices are heard.
My TKN assignment with AKF Egypt was to strengthen educational offerings at the Centre for Continuing Education in Aswan. The Centre was one of the organizations established under the aegis of Um Habibeh Foundation established by Mata Salamat to assist the population of Aswan and surrounding areas.
Shahin Hirji's TKN placement was as the building coordinator at the Ismaili Centre, tasked with developing a maintenance plan for the facility, setting it up, and training the local team on how to execute the plan. Hirji had extensive engineering consulting experience, though none of it was specifically in building management.
Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS) is an international crisis response and disaster management agency which emphasizes a community-based approach, particularly in its Disaster Risk Reduction efforts. FOCUS depends heavily on its international network of volunteers, who are integral to the success of the organization. We have had TKN volunteers from around the world join in our efforts to limit the magnitude of disaster, taking the work of our organization to the next level.
