Across India this 15 August, Ismailis celebrated their nation’s independence through acts that contributed to the wellbeing of society. Members of the Jamat planted trees, cleaned up local monuments and put on street plays to educate about traffic safety.
“The future is really bright, if you know where to shine the light,” says Alisha Sonawalla, a self-acclaimed culture enthusiast. She is one of many Ismaili youth in India, who see a bright future for their country — one they are keen to shape with their optimism and confidence.

New Delhi, 6 April 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in India today for a week-long visit during which he will receive the Padma Vibhushan. Hazar Imam is also expected to lay the foundation stone for a site museum and visitor’s centre for Humayun’s Tomb.

When three Ismaili entrepreneurs saw the potential for their business model to improve education and address poverty in Kenya, they partnered with a Nairobi primary school and a local charity to test the idea. Student attendance, grades and enrollment at the school have since soared.
Princess Zahra visited India and Bangladesh in June to review progress in the redevelopment of Prince Aly Khan Hospital and the surrounding Aga Hall estate, and to take part in celebrating the silver jubilee of the Aga Khan School in Dhaka. She also met with leaders and members of the Jamat in both countries.
