New Delhi, 7 April 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam called on the President, Vice President and Prime Minister of India today, visiting them at their respective official residences.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi praised the contributions of the Aga Khan Foundation in India, particularly in the areas of rural development and sanitation. As the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Prime Minister has personally witnessed the work of the Foundation.

Mawlana Hazar Imam thanked the Prime Minister and said that AKF continues to be involved in the promotion of health and hygiene, and in making clean water available to rural populations. Hazar Imam also expressed his gratitude at being honoured by India as a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan — one of the country’s highest civilian decorations — which he will receive tomorrow.

Earlier in the morning, in the company of his children and grandchildren, Hazar Imam visited the Humayun’s Tomb complex, where he would later preside over the foundation ceremony for a site museum.
