Based in Doha, Qatar, Rita Chagani works as a Patient Care Assistant at the Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar. She has also worked as an ICU nurse during the Dengue outbreak in her home country, Pakistan.

Rita's current role involves helping nurses in patient care in the female ward. However, thanks to the ongoing pandemic, her role has changed multiple times. During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rita worked as a translator between the doctors and Covid-19 positive patients in the construction sector. Rita has worked as a member of the swab-test team that gathers samples from suspected and confirmed Covid-19 cases, finds asymptomatic patients, and isolates them in order to stop the spread. Rita is also part of the contact tracing team where they trace the people who came into contact with confirmed cases.

"We are trying our best to isolate them as soon as possible so we can stop the spread," said Rita.

While working closely with positive Covid-19 patients, Rita said she feels excited and nervous at the same time.

"When I start working it gives me courage, since our team doctors have said we are like an army, which stands between the population and the coronavirus. We are warriors. We also keep each other motivated, cheer one another up which really helps to keep us going"  she said.

Rita also gets frequent motivational calls from the local community leaders, this along with her husband who helps her take care of their two-year-old child, keeps her spirits high.

"I really recommend the proper practice of hygiene measures. If you believe you have had exposure to someone who may have Covid-19, or if you have symptoms, please test yourself so you can save other lives around you and we can stop the spread."

She further adds, "The main cause of the spread in this pandemic, is that even though people know it's a crisis, they are still not following the preventive measures given by governments. We really all need to cooperate, and each of us should take the responsibility to be safe."
