Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to be a part of the Global Encounters. Global Encounters Camps rely on the knowledge and expertise of competent professionals to implement programmes throughout the year. Faciltiators serve an important role in our programmes.

Global Encounters Camps Facilitators
Global Encounters participants are curious, compassionate youth who demonstrate high leadership potential. Facilitators directly mentor, guide, and support participants to ensure their growth and development through transformational experiences. Facilitators are flexible, adapt quickly to dynamic situations, and are open to learning and being part of a team.
- Facilitators serve a key role in building relationships and foster a sense of community
- Support the development of strong relationships among participants from different parts of the world
- Build an inclusive and respectful community among participants and staff
- Lead and facilitate workshops (dance, art, identity development, community building)
- Lead groups through service learning projects and support individual research and inquiry
- Support residential living and day-to-day needs of participants
- Provide emotional support to participants as they explore a new culture and navigate a new environment away from home
- Facilitate team-building activities, sports, debates, arts and group service projects
- Create engaging projects, meaningful discussions and reflective activities
- Responsibly care for participants throughout the programme, including during off-campus visits and excursions
- Work collaboratively with facilitators from diverse backgrounds
Desired Qualifications
Global Encounters Camps seek to retain a talented and committed volunteer team that reflects a diversity of cultures, interests, careers, and educational backgrounds. For each camp, we aim to build a cohort of facilitators that complement each other’s personalities and skills and reflect our shared core values. Facilitators have the unique responsibility to help develop transformational experiences and solid lifelong friendships for participants and volunteers.
- Global Encounters Camps are physically and mentally rigorous programmes. We are looking for individuals who are flexible and hard-working
- Preferably 25 years and older
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
- Minimum of 3+ years of work experience preferred. Professionals from all disciplines are encouraged to apply (nonprofit, business, government, technology, healthcare, education, arts, etc.)
- Passion for youth development and experience working with youth within or outside the Jamati context
- Ability to mentor and serve as a role model with positive values
- Flexibility, strong communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
- Ability and experience working on a team with peers with diverse skills and backgrounds
- Experience volunteering in communities or organising service-learning projects with youth
- Experience in art, music, sports, theatre, photography, media arts, technology, social entrepreneurship, etc.
- An understanding of international development
- Excellent command of reading and speaking English

2023 Global Encounters Camps:
- GE Camp India: 24 June 2023 - 19 July 2023
- GE Camp Kenya: 14 July 2023 - 8 August 2023
- GE Camp Pakistan: 22 July 2023 - 17 August 2023
- GE Expedition December in East Africa and South Asia: 18 December 2023 to 4 January 2024
Facilitator Commitment
- Commitment to participate in pre-camp planning, preparation, implementation, and post-camp debrief meetings (spanning over three months)
- Participation in virtual webinars, each approximately 90-120 minutes in length
- Completing pre-camp reading to get oriented to the context and programme content
- On-site time (per programme dates above), including time for training, planning and camp implementation with participants
- Please note Global Encounters will cover all programme costs, including international travel for facilitators.
