Learn about Covid-19 in pregnancy.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, you may be feeling anxious if you are pregnant or trying to conceive. Here are a few things to remember:

  • Pregnant women are no more likely to get seriously unwell with Coronavirus than the general population, however, national guidance includes them in the ‘moderate’ risk group as a precaution.
  • If you are in your third trimester you should take particular care with social distancing and hygiene practices.
  • Maternity services are running as usual, although teams may take precautions including virtual appointments where appropriate.
  • Vitamin D supplements are recommended to all women during pregnancy and women from BAME backgrounds are known to be more prone to low levels.
  • Birth partners are allowed to be present for labour and birth, including Caesarean sections.
  • If you have Coronavirus, transmission to your baby is uncommon and does not seem to be affected by mode of birth, method of feeding or whether the woman and baby stay together.
  • If you have symptoms use the NHS 111 online guide and follow the national guidelines on isolation of households.
