The Ismaili Centre Lisbon hosted a special celebration this evening to mark a quarter-century since its inauguration. Members of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s family and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa were present to mark this milestone moment for the Jamat in Portugal.

To celebrate the 26th anniversary of its Foundation Ceremony, the Ismaili Centre Lisbon opened its doors to the public for a weekend of guided tours, a creative art exhibition, and unique musical performances. Prince Aly Muhammad and the Mayor of Lisbon were in attendance at the event.

On 25 May 2022, the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon commemorated Africa Day at an event organised by the Group of Ambassadors of African countries in Portugal, in partnership with the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat.

An Iftar dinner was hosted at the Ismaili Centre, Lisbon, earlier this week, attended by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Princess Zahra, and Prince Hussain. Representatives of fellow faith communities, diplomats, and government officials were invited to break the fast alongside leaders of the Jamat and the Aga Khan Development Network.

The President of Greece, Ms Katerina Sakellaropoulou, visited the Ismaili Centre, Lisbon, during her three-day trip to Portugal last week. She was welcomed to the Centre by Princess Zahra and Prince Hussain.

The new Ismaili Center in Houston will express in physical form the Jamat’s commitment to building a pluralist society and finding ways to unite diverse people and cultures. The Center’s design is contemporary, yet reflects a historically rooted, rich architectural heritage. It combines modern architectural technology with traditional Persian forms and ornament, including ceramic mosaics and mashrabiya screens.

The forecourt garden with its reflecting pool at the entrance of the building creates a contemplative atmosphere. The new Center will feature beautiful spaces, intricate geometry, and highly crafted work.

Established by Mawlana Hazar Imam for the Jamat in the USA and around the world, the new Ismaili Center will represent dialogue between faith and world, East and West, traditional and contemporary, and between humanity and nature.
