The AKDN has launched a mobile app featuring the winners of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture over the past three decades. The app is available for free in the iTunes App Store and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices, and includes video, photographs, drawings and descriptions of each of the winning projects.

At a special convocation ceremony held on 13 January 2012 at the University of Ottawa, Mawlana Hazar Imam was awarded the honorary degree Doctor of the University for his service to humanity.

Ottawa, 13 January 2012 – At a special convocation ceremony held this morning at the University of Ottawa, Mawlana Hazar Imam was awarded the honorary degree Doctor of the University for his service to humanity. The convocation was presided over by University of Ottawa Chancellor Huguette Labelle, in what was her last official event following an 18-year tenure as Chancellor.

Upon his arrival in Ottawa, Mawlana Hazar Imam is greeted on the snowy tarmac by Ismaili Council for Canada President Mohamed Manji, Vice-President Malik Talib, AKFC Chairman Amin Lalji, and Ismaili Council for Ottawa President Zaina Sovani.

Ottawa, 12 January 2012 – Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Canada today, landing in Ottawa this evening. Tomorrow, Hazar Imam will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa.

Over the past year, the construction of the Ismaili Centre, Toronto, the Aga Khan Museum and their Park on Wynford Drive has seen immense progress. Integral to their overall design, the Park will connect the Ismaili Centre and the Aga Khan Museum, offering a welcoming green space to visitors.

Part of a seismically unstable zone that is prone to earthquakes, floods, landslides and droughts, Pakistan's northern region has long been home to a signifiant Ismaili population. Several new purpose-built jamatkhana projects blend traditional building with new disaster-resistant techniques. From design and construction to finished product, the new structures offer a model to uplifit the quality of habitat throughout the region.

As it prepares for its January 2012 concert, the UK Ismaili Community Ensemble has found resonance with the values of the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Games. The celebration of cultural diversity, finding ways to inspire and involve young people, and leaving a positive legacy in London through social cohesion and cultural participation are notions that are shared by the Ensemble and have influenced the music it has created.

Bishkek, 1 December 2011 – Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Bishkek today for the inauguration of the new President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Almazbek Atambaev. During the visit, Hazar Imam met with President Atambaev, as well as former President Roza Otunbaeva, to discuss the AKDN’s partnership with the country.

Ismaili Centre welcomes visitors during Open House weekend in London

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Open House London took place on the weekend of 22 – 23 September. Buildings such as the Bank of England Museum, the Royal Courts of Justice, the BBC Television Centre, and the Ismaili Centre, London opened their doors, inviting Londoners to to view and celebrate the diverse architecture of their city.
