What is the Ismaili Civic Initiative?

The Ismaili CIVIC initiative has made a significant impact in the societies and areas in which it has been implemented, and has served to reflect through action, our ethic of service and our Jamat’s commitment as well as contribution to the betterment of the quality of life wherever we reside.

It is an endeavour that speaks directly to the importance we attach to the principles of care, good citizenship, and community service in our everyday lives.

Thanks to your collective efforts - and in spite of the challenges posed by COVID-19 – the Ismaili CIVIC brand has achieved rapid growth and success in many areas of the world. We are now looking to maintain this momentum through the commemoration of the first Global Ismaili CIVIC Day.

It is in this light that we propose to schedule Sunday 26th September, 2021 as our first Global Ismaili CIVIC Day.

It will be a day for the Jamat around the world to visibly engage in CIVIC related activities and programming, whereby, through a united effort, we may highlight the global potential of this initiative.

This commemoration is not intended to relegate CIVIC programming and activity to only one day a year, and it is of utmost importance that these should continue all through the year, as they do now,

Demonstrating that community service is not a one-time effort, but rather a core element of day-to-day societal and communal life,

we propose that we adopt two pertinent themes for the inaugural Global Ismaili CIVIC Day and associated CIVIC programming, namely (1) Environmental Stewardship, and (2) COVID-19 Pandemic Response, which will have global resonance in the current world situation.
