ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

3-year Fixed Term Contract

Based: The Ismaili Centre, South Kensington, London.

Role: The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) invites applications for the role of Academic Director (AD). The AD is responsible for the academic direction, quality and management of the religious education system specifically for the (a) early childhood (ECD)/ pre-primary, (b) primary (Talim), (c) secondary (STEP).

They will ensure that all Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary curriculum work, teaching and learning initiatives, and parental education/engagement strategies are grounded in the IIS curricular perspectives and appropriate to the development needs of children and adolescents. They will also ensure that these are suitable to the context and mandate of the Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Board (ITREB) both within the UK and regions in Europe that fall within the UK jurisdiction. Increasing student access to religious education through excellence in teaching and learning experiences is also a prime mandate of this office.

Person Profile: You will be an outstanding and passionate educator sensitive to the challenges and opportunities involved in the educational leadership and delivery of religious education in the UK and Europe. You will also have significant experience both working with and leading teams, mentoring and coaching and within the Ismaili community with and in delivering the IIS curriculum to students and the wider Jamat.

You will need to be a graduate of the IIS Secondary Teacher Educator Programme (STEP) with significant teaching experience in either primary or secondary education. You will also have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in either curriculum development, school leadership or teacher education with a proven record of successful practices in these areas.
