The AfCFTA is a trade agreement signed between 54 countries of the African Union, which provides for the establishment, by 2028, of a common market and an economic union, as well as an area of free movement of people.
Through this Agreement, the largest free trade area in the world will be created, which will entail the progressive reduction or elimination of tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade and investment. Such an open market will certainly provide countless new business opportunities and the increase of commercial relations between investors and economic operators in the many countries involved.
The AfCFTA came into force on 30 May 2019, and commercial operations under it are scheduled to begin on 1 January 2021.
