The current program is promoted and organized by the External Relations, Arts & Culture of the National Council of the Shia Imami Ismaili Community in Portugal, internally designated as ERAC, is destined for the members of this Community, and will comply with the following set of rules:
1. Purpose and scope
This program is organized by ERAC with the purpose of promoting different art forms, exploring, and developing creativity and originality, through Photography and Writing.
2. Participants
The program is designed for the participation of members of the Ismaili Community, from the Portuguese jurisdiction (Portugal, Spain, and Angola), of all ages, as well as respective family members, even those that do not practice the same Faith.
Participation in this program is limited to the above-mentioned population since this community has its specificities and a particular organization that stems from the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim’s Constitution.
Members of the ERAC team, as well as the jurors of this program, are automatically excluded from participation.
3. Characteristics of submitted works
The Works submitted must comply with the following criteria:
• Theme: Saudade (Portuguese word with no direct translation, that describes a sensation of missing or longing for something / someone)
• Languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish and Gujarati.
• Characteristics of Photography works – All photographs must be submitted in digital format and in a high-definition image. You must include a summary with title, date and short description of the photograph.
- Any kind of camaras can be used, including mobile devices and cell phones.
- Format: JPG
- Minimum dimensions of 1024 pixel in larger scale (width or height)
- Minimum resolution of 200 dpi’s
- Maximum storage per photo 5 MB
- Editing and exposure correction, contrast and color are acceptable.
• Characteristics of Creative Writing works - the text, in prose or poem, must have:
- Minimum of 300 and maximum of 1200 words – age group up to 11 years of age
- Minimum of 400 and maximum of 1500 words – age group from 12 to 17 years of age
- Minimum of 500 and maximum of 3000 words – age group of 18 years of age and up
4. General conditions for participation
Each author can produce up to 2 (two) works, one in each category (Photography and Creative Writing).
Each work must observe the theme “Saudade”.
Participation in the program is individual.
Underage participants (below 18 years of age) can participate in the program, as long as they have written authorization by their respective legal guardians.
For the photography category participants must confirm that their work does not violate the rights of third parties, unless able to confirm all necessary authorizations to use and publish the photos in this program.
Participants guarantee that all works submitted are original and unpublished pieces. Plagiarism, partial or total, deems the work inadmissible to the program. Violation of these conditions renders the works excluded from participation in the program. Participants will be the sole responsible for any damage, moral or patrimonial to any third parties, being accountable for any compensation that results from any breech of copyright.
5. Submission of works
Participants must submit their works by e-mail to [email protected] with the following information:
• Full name
• Date of birth
• Residence (city of)
• E-mail and mobile phone contact
• In the case of minors, a written authorization by the legal guardian.
Each work must be signed with a different pseudonym to guarantee an impartial evaluation by the selected jury.
ERAC reserves the right to dismiss a participation of an underage participant in case it is not accompanied with the written authorization.
6. Deadlines
19th march 2021 - program launch
19th april 2021 - deadline for submission of works
Results of the program and winners will be communicated during the month of may, in the appropriate channels, to be announced.
ERAC reserves the right to change any dates as a result of unforeseen conditions, either by extending or shortening the deadlines. All changes will be duly communicated to all participants through the appropriate channels.
7. Criteria for evaluation/appreciation
All Works will be evaluated/assessed by a jury especially assembled for this purpose, and participants will be sorted in 3 age groups as follows:
• Up to 11 years of age - infants
• From 12 to 17 years of age - youths
• From 18 years upward - adults
The jury will evaluate all Works with the following criteria:
• Respect for the theme of the program
• Originality and creativity
• Compliance with the set of rules defined in this document
• Aesthetics
• Spelling accuracy (Creative writing)
8. Jury
The Jury for this program is composed of 2 members of reputed experience in in each of the categories of the program.
The jury reserves the right to not accept any Works that do not comply, partly or completely, with the present regulation.
The jury’s deliberations are final, and not liable of any claims or appeals.
9. Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to 3 works, in each category (Photography and Creative Writing) and each age group (infants, youths, adults) as follows:
- 1st prize - Gift Card of 25€
- 2nd prize - Gift card of 20€
- 3rd prize - Gift Card of 15€
10. Copyright and publishing rights
All participants accept and abide by all the rules and clauses of the present regulation document.
The authors are the rightful owners of the works they produce but authorize publication or exhibition of their works by ERAC in different media, always duly identified with the authors’ name, but with no rights to any form of remuneration for this publication.
ERAC guarantees that the copyright of the works is protected but reserves the right to publish and promote the works, as long as these publications are not utilized for profit.
