For all those who have chosen Portugal to restart their lives, learning to speak Portuguese is essential for them to be able to integrate into the Portuguese society. Only then will they be able to do well at school and enter the job market.
During the months of July and August, FOCUS organised, at the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon, Portuguese classes for children aged between 4 and 10, in collaboration with the Butterflies Learning Centre (photo). For the following age group - 11 to 17 - Portuguese and maths classes were held at the Centro de Estudos Génios e Traquinas. Sixty-three adults are also having Portuguese classes, including conversation classes. The results of these programmes have been very positive but there is still a long way to go to achieve full integration.
