The Aga Khan Council for Bangladesh, celebrated the World Speech Day (WSD). This is an annual event-taking place at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, every year for the past consecutive four years.

This year the Aga Khan Council, hosted the event as a member of the World Speech Day Global Forum, following the global theme: “World Citizen: It’s a State of Mind.” Hosting this event every year for the past few years has allowed the participants to hear unique voices from diverse backgrounds, celebrating the power of unexpected voices to inspire and change our world. Past speakers have included newspaper editors, renowned authors, diplomats and young secondary school students, among many others, all of whom have delivered powerful speeches.

Welcoming the guests, Aga Khan Council, Vice President, Mr. Amyn Saleh said; “In today’s world of instant communication, it has become much easier to play the role of a World Citizen. The impact of globalization of course has had a large part to play in this phenomenon.”

This year’s speakers included, Ms. Farzana Choudhury, from the Department of Marketing and International Business, North South University, Dr. Mohammad Miraly, who holds a PhD in Religion, Ethics, and Public Policy from McGill University, Canada, Ms. Sohara Mehroze Shachi, Research Associate at the UNDP. Student speakers included Ms. Amrita Zaman from Sir John Wilsons and Ms. Inara Budhani from the Aga Khan School.

After the program, lunch was served and tour of the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre was given to the interested guests
