Moreover, youth nowadays are increasingly breaking out of the school-university-9/5 job routine into other creative fields like art, architecture, music and media. Familiarizing children who are on the brink of choosing their desired fields of study, with the exact processes of a media publication was an interesting way to introduce them to the fascinating career of mainstream media and journalism.
Keeping the above factors in mind, the children and adults of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community of Bangladesh between the ages of 10 to 30 years were recently taken to the head office of a daily newspaper, The Daily Sun. Around 10:00 am Saturday, 23rd of September, all children and young adults piled into a hired bus to go to The Daily Sun head office.
The children were welcomed with tea and snacks and invited to a roundtable discussion. The discussion had the acting editor of The Daily Sun, Mr. Enamul Hoque Chowdhury in attendance. The interactive session had Mr. Hoque explaining different sections of the newspaper, and the news gathering, choosing and assembling process and the children enthusiastically asking questions.
The Daily Sun office then gave the visitors a tour of their offices and even took them on a detailed tour of their printing press area, which was a short ride away. The visitors got to see firsthand, how the newspapers come to be, as they see it and the various production and technical processes associated with it.
After the tour, visitors were taken to Gulshan Club for lunch and treated to ice cream on the way back home. The event was an initiative taken by the Communications and Publications Committee, under the Aga Khan National Council, Bangladesh.
The Daily Sun produced a short coverage of this visit in their online news for the evening, the link to which is provided below:
