Hussain Rajwani of Sydney, Australia was recently placed second in a Toastmasters divisional competition. Toastmasters International is a global organisation dedicated to public speaking and oral communication, enhancing leadership skills and confidence. Rajwani was selected as one of six finalists in the divisional competition, and ultimately earned second prize.
“I'm really grateful for the opportunities I received to serve in Jamati institutions, since these have effectively laid the foundations for my public speaking accomplishments,” said Rajwani. He noted that the Toastmasters club and competitions aim to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment for every individual member.
Rajwani believes that the skills he developed in Toastmasters are essential in a competitive, modern world: “It will be the soft skills – the leadership qualities, the interpersonal effectiveness and the ability to communicate confidently before an audience – that distinguish the very good from the absolute best,” he says. “The ability to communicate effectively then becomes a crucial ingredient to future success in this knowledge based society.”
Rajwani, who recently graduated with a Bachelors of Commerce/Law (Honours), is currently working as a tax and legal analyst at a global consulting firm. He also volunteers as a Bait-ul Ilm teacher and serves on a committee of the Ismaili Council for Australia and New Zealand.
