The Institute of Ismaili Studies is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of The Fatimids: 2. The Rule from Egypt, the highly anticipated second volume exploring the history and legacy of the Fatimid dynasty. The event will take place at the Ismaili Centre, London, and will be streamed live on The Ismaili TV on 27 April at 8:15 PM (BST).
This event will feature a conversation between author Dr Shainool Jiwa and Senior Advisor to the Aga Khan Development Network and IIS Governor Naguib Kheraj, exploring the World of Islam series, which aims to offer non-specialist readers with a reliable and balanced overview of the diverse manifestations of Islam. It seeks to redress misperceptions about Muslims around the world and throughout history, who express their faith and values through varied cultural, social, intellectual and religious means.
Their on-stage discussion will offer an opportunity to delve deeper into the fascinating world of the Fatimids, their impact on the Islamic world, and their achievements during a time of great significance for the development of Islamic art, architecture, and intellectual thought.
In the lively and engaging book, author Dr Jiwa recounts the story of the Fatimids from their newly-founded capital of Cairo. Introducing the figures who moulded the empire, the publication charts the Fatimid expansion, the reasons behind its ultimate fall, and the legacy that continues with the living Ismaili communities today.
Join us as we celebrate the publication of The Fatimids: 2. The Rule from Egypt and deepen our understanding of this rich and complex dynasty.
