"...the evidence accumulates steadily showing that an investment made in the earliest, pre-school years can bring enormous dividends as a child proceeds from one level of education to another".
His Highness the Aga Khan, Mombasa (Kenya), 2007
Early Childhood Care and Education focuses on the first 8 years of life, from birth (and even during pregnancy). By providing quality nurture and attention during this period, when science tells us the brain is intensively developing, one is capitalizing the child’s potential. According to UNESCO, “it can lay the foundation for good health and nutrition, learning and educational success, social-emotional learning, and economic productivity throughout life”.
So, one can find different options to boost the development and potential of the children, either it is through day-cares, kindergarten, playgroups, or parenting workshops and projects.
Now, the period is also starting for applications for vacancies in day-cares and kindergartens, for next school year (starting September). The government recently approved a new measure of support for free attendance in day-cares and kindergartens. However, when looking for quality in these establishments and services where our children will be enrolled, there are some indicators that can help us focus on the game-changing factors.
Are you curious about all of this?
The ECD Team of the Aga Khan Education Board is available to meet and discuss with you, the parents, and caregivers, on one-on-one moments, and support you in finding the best option to boost the development of your child.
