At the start of the pandemic, there was a 47% increase in food bank use. Anything from ill health, a job loss, or an unexpected change in circumstances could leave someone facing a crisis, unable to afford the basics. Showcasing the ethics of civic engagement, good citizenship, and generosity, the Ismaili Community in Swindon collected and donated over a tonne of much needed food items for those in need in the broader community. In collaboration with The Trussell Trust whose network of UK food banks aim to stop UK hunger, the donations contributed towards the food banks effort to feed over 6,000 people per year, one third of whom are children.This project was the first of its kind for the local Jamat and offered a great opportunity to foster a relationship with the food bank and continue to support its mission to reduce the impact of food poverty on people in crisis.
