Ya Ali Madad,

As we approach the end of this month of June, there are some aspects worth mentioning.
On the 5th of June, we celebrated World Environment Day. For too long, we have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems. Ecosystem loss is depriving the world of carbon sinks, like forests and peatlands, at a time humanity can least afford it.

The emergence of COVID-19 has also shown just how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be. By shrinking the area of natural habitat for animals, we have created ideal conditions for pathogens – including coronaviruses – to spread. World Environment Day is focused on ecosystem restoration and its theme is “Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.” Ecosystem restoration means preventing, halting, and reversing this damage. We should do our part by taking care of our planet the same way we take care of our home.

Angola has now vaccinated over 1 million people against COVID-19. Around 30 thousand doses are currently being administrated in the country daily, using vaccines from Covax. This is a huge mark for Angola, showing that the Government and Health authorities are working accordingly with the international guidelines.

Next month, we will celebrate Imamat Day on July 11. Always a joyful and very happy occasion for each and every one of us.
Imamat Day marks the anniversary of the day that our present (Hazar) Imam Aga Khan IV succeeded his predecessor to become the Imam of the Time.

The Aga Khan IV is the 49th Imam of the Ismailis, having succeeded his grandfather, the Aga Khan III on July 11, 1957.

The recognition of the Imam of the Time is central to Ismailis' faith and beliefs. Imamat Day provides an occasion to reinforce this and to express gratitude to the Imam who, in keeping with the centuries-old tradition of leadership, provides guidance in matters of faith, and works to improve the quality and security of our lives. It is a day to reaffirm our spiritual allegiance to the Imam and renew our commitment to the ethics of our faith.

Let us keep hope for a brighter future by practicing our faith and commit to good deeds.
