Vocational skills are very important in today’s fast paced world. While the internet and the age of online apps have taken the world by storm, there are still some skills that are unique to the human ability. One such skill is the art of applying mehndi or henna. Henna is a big part of the Muslim  world and is considered sacred on any joyous occasion, be it religious or cultural. Women across the Muslim world have historically shown a keen interest towards this art while also possessing great skill in it. While henna art looks different in different cultures, henna artists nowadays take inspiration from all forms to come out with something truly creative.

In order to keep the henna application tradition alive and to give the young girls and ladies of the Jamat a skill  they can earn some side  income with, the Social Welfare and Women’s’Activities Committee held a henna application training on the 7th, 14th and 15th of September, 2018. The 3-day training had ladies from within the Jamat serving as trainers for the newer henna enthusiasts. There were a good number of participants in all, including the very young from the Jamat. This truly goes to show the unifying power of art, transcending age and generation gap; we hope that the committees come up with more fun and culture specific trainings to keep the momentum going.
