Who is Rinaaz Kassam?
My name is Rinaaz Kassam, I’m 14 years old. I study at Aga Khan Academy Nairobi Senior School, and I aspire to become a pro tennis player.
What inspired you to play Tennis?
My mum got me into the sport when I was around four years old, but I started taking the sport seriously at age 10, where I decided I wanted to be a professional.
What was your experience like at the Africa Junior Tennis Championship?
It was very fun, I had a lot of good times with my teammates and coaches. It was a slightly different court and extreme conditions, so my team and I had to adapt in a very short time, but we played well overall and I was able to gain more experience as a player.
What next?
I will continue to play events, both local and international, to build my points and gain a ranking as well as experience.
Do you have any advice for those looking to take up Tennis?
It is a difficult sport, where mentality is very important. If you want to take up tennis, patience, a good mindset as well as commitment and competitiveness are the most difficult but most important assets to learn and use.
