The Golden Jubilee Games: Celebration Through Sport was a global Ismaili sports festival held in Nairobi, Kenya from 24 – 29 June 2008. The Games attracted competitors and spectators from more than 20 countries, who participated in a celebration of excellence in sport, as well as a variety of social and cultural activities.

Access to antiretroviral drugs has restored the quality of life of millions of HIV-positive people, but the cost of this medicine is prohibitive to populations in some areas of the developing world. Mawlana Hazar Imam travelled to Mali, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal during his Golden Jubilee tour of West Africa. During the tour, Hazar Imam was warmly welcomed by government leaders from all countries as he attended to various AKDN programmes and initiatives in the region.
Situated across the road from the Ismaili Centre Dubai, the Dubai Park is a gift from Mawlana Hazar Imam to the city of Dubai.
In March 2008, Mawlana Hazar Imam travelled to the United Arab Emirates for a Golden Jubilee visit. During the busy four day trip, Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the Jamat and presided over the historic opening of the Ismaili Centre Dubai.
27 March 2008 – DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – His Highness the Aga Khan, Spiritual Leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, officially opened an Ismaili Centre in Dubai. The opening ceremony was attended by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan – senior members of the ruling families.

The 2007 Ismaili Centre Lecture Series concluded with addresses by Rageh Omar and Jan Aarte Scholte focusing on cosmopolitanism and identity, exploring ideas of tolerance and social justice in a pluralistic society. This gives way to the 2008 Lecture series which focuses on the theme Sharing the Narrative of Progress.
A panel of notable academics and specialists assembled at The Ismaili Centre, London on Wednesday, 30 January 2008 to discuss the role of faith in post-conflict emerging states.
Members of the Jamat from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda participated in an array of sporting events in Dar es Salaam over the holiday weekend in December 2007.
Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee visits commenced with East Africa in August 2007. In Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, he met with the Jamat and with government and civic leaders. Mawlana Hazar Imam also announced a number of significant new AKDN initiatives.
