There are many Jamatkhanas in India, a handful of which have celebrated over a century of existence. In this article we will explore three of India’s oldest Jamatkhanas, including their histories, architecture, and the role they play in the community today.
‘Coffee Connect’, a first of its kind progamme held at Pallavaram (Chennai) on 13th January 2019, which was a joint endeavor by the AKYSB and AKES, Bengaluru. The programme was ideated and executed by youth and was aimed at inspiring and motivating members of the Jamat in the age group of 13 to 23 years. It was, in fact, an interesting fusion of AKYSB’s ‘Cafe@YSB’ and AKES’s ‘Knowledge, Network and Coffee’ programmes.

With a concept of “Cradle to Grave”, AKHB,I has conducted many awareness sessions about Non Communicable Diseases, organized Cancer Screening Camps, promoted ECD and has been constantly guiding the jamat to take Medical Health Insurance.
Nestled at the base of the Pamir mountain range lies Gorno-Badakhshan (GBAO), a place of immense beauty within a harsh and rugged mountainous region — home of Nasir Khusraw. The population in Badakhshan is predominantly Ismaili and live in small villages along the slopes of the Pamirs or near the tributaries of the Pyanj River that divides Tajikistan from Afghanistan.

Inclusivity is an imperative ethic for the growth of any community. The only true disability which exists in society is the inability to accept and acknowledge each other’s differences. The Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board (AKYSB) in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBBC) and the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board, arranged a Blind Cricket and Bowling Tournament for differently-abled Jamati members from Gilgit, Hunza, Ishkoman Puniyal, Gupis Yasin, Upper Chitral, and Central Regions.
The Aga Khan Council for Bangladesh, celebrated the World Speech Day (WSD). This is an annual event-taking place at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, every year for the past consecutive four years.
Award-winning author Lesley Hazleton will be the keynote speaker at a lecture to commemorate Yawm-e Ali. The lecture will take place on Sunday, 14 April 2019 at 3:30 PM EDT at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto. Hazleton will explore what happens when religion loses the sense of soul – when the letter of the law substitutes the life of the spirit. Her lecture will explore all faith traditions, advocating for what she sees as the real religious sense – one open to the world instead of closed against it.
