With the intent of doing something for other living creatures in the habitat, a team of members got together and brainstormed of a way to help our aviary neighbours – nature’s flying machines - by providing Bird water feeders for our winged friends, to get a little respite, particularly in the hot, dry summer when water can be hard to find.

People often put out food for birds, but few provide them with a regular supply of clean water, especially during summer in Kutch, when there is a dearth of water and temperatures rise above 40 degrees!

So AKAHI (Aga Khan Agency for Habitat) regional team for Northern Eastern Gujarat (NEG) with support of AKYSB (Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board) and SNG (Scout and Guide) distributed 54 Bird Water Feeders to Jamati members in Bhuj Jamatkhana and successfully completed this activity with the support of local volunteers. A local-level social group provided bird water feeders free of cost.

Green Habitats have finally moved into the mainstream after several years of slow but steady growth across the country. More and more people are interested in sustainable green environmental principles – not only because it's good for the environment, but because it is also beneficial for human beings. Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India (AKAHI) has been promoting and supporting green habitat development through a series of awareness programmes on energy conservation, tree plantation, water conservation, solid waste management, etc.

AKAHI celebrates World Environment Day (WED) annually on the 5th of June every year which is the biggest and most widely celebrated global event for positive climate change and environmental action. On the occasion of World Environment Day, AKAHI reaffirms its concerns towards energy efficiency at household and community level, integrated water conservation and waste management across communities.

AKAHI has organised 500 WED events till date wherein initiatives such as tree plantation drives, area cleanliness drives, segregation of bio degradable/ non degradable waste has been undertaken.
